How to get into HQ Racing
HQ racing is one of the most cost effective and easiest way to get into motor racing in New Zealand.
A good HQ race car can cost between $4000-$7000 to buy and you will be ready to go racing. What potential new racers must also consider is the ongoing costs of owning and racing a race car.
Each meeting will cost you between $500 and $1000 to compete, depending on where you live and how far you have to travel. Here are the costs for a typical season in HQ's.
Entry fees $1500 (6 rounds x $250)
Testing fees $600 (6 rounds x $100)
Tyres $440 (4 tyres x $110)
AvGas $600 (6 rounds of approx $100)
Accomodation $1200 (6 rounds x $200 - 2 nights)
Car Maintenance $1200 ($200 per round on average - oil changes, brakes etc)
This is a conservative estimate, but totals around $6000 for the season, excluding any major repair bills for panels or engine work. Although this may seem quite a bit, it is very cost effective compared to other classes of motor racing.
