Kelly was born in a small Florida town called Cocoa Beach on February 11, 1972. This is where he grew up and learned how to surf together with his two brothers - older Sean Slater and younger Stephen Slater. Although he was born in Cocoa Beach, Florida, USA, Kelly has houses all over the world. He still claims Florida as home. His home beach where he learned how to surf is Cocoa Beach or Sebastian Inlet, both in Florida, USA.
His nickname is Slats, SL8R or your current and eight-time Foster’s ASP World Tour champion. He has a regular (natural) foot stance on a surfboard. That means he surfs with his left leg infornt and his right leg in the back. He weights around 160 lbs (72.5kgs) and is 5'9” (175cm) tall.
His sponsors include his longtime sponsor Quiksilver wetsuits and clothing and other spnsors like Boost mobile, Channel Islands surfboards, Komunity Project accessories etc... His primary shaper that makes most of his surfboards is Al Merrick. Pro surfers have loads and loads of different surfboards. Kelly Slaters average board quiver looks something like this: A 5’10”, 6’1”, 6’3” and 6’6” when on the road.
His favourite waves are Kirra (Australia) and Pipe (Hawaii). His favourite surfing manuevers are airs and barrels.
His favorite surfers are Tom Curren, Tom Carroll, Mark Occhilupo, Martin Potter, Andy Irons and Shane Dorian. When he’s not in the water, you can find him playing golf, playing music, fishing or enjoying life of a star.
He has a 10-year-old daughter named Taylor, but he is not married.
