| The Red Bull airforce drops in on peak gondola launch in Whistler |
| Wednesday, 17 December 2008 04:14 |
Red Bull Airforce surprised onlookers by base jumping out of the Peak 2 Peak Gondola on it's opening day in Whistler/Blackcomb, BC. So, the question you may have on your mind is - what is the Peak 2 Peak Gondola? ![]() Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains is now united by a gondola that sets three world records while providing an unmatched experience for winter and summer resort guests. The PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola will travel 4.4 kilometres in just 11 minutes, transporting winter and summer guests from Whistler to Blackcomb Mountain, giving them unprecedented access to expansive and unique high alpine terrain and spectacular vistas. Skiing, riding and sightseeing on the mountains has forever changed at Whistler Blackcomb and guests came from far and wide to be part of the momentous opening occasion. The snow was falling as guests gathered at the Whistler and Blackcomb PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola terminal buildings to celebrate and ride the gondola. Gondola Girls, live DJs, mascots, free cake and hot chocolate added to the mountaintop festivities. ![]() Most notably, though, Red Bull gave wings to the celebration by literally dropping in! Famous freestyle skier adrenaline junkie, Shane McConkey, surprised onlookers by BASE jumping out of the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola - confirming the rumours of this stunt that had been swirling for many weeks leading up to today. McConkey and fellow Air Force jumper, Miles Daisher, braved the 1500 feet over Fitzsimmons Creek to become the first - and most likely the last - to BASE jump from this record-breaking feat of alpine engineering. |
