New Zealand racing driver Matt Halliday is now in Monaco preparing for Round 4 of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup being held as a support event to the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix this coming weekend. The Californian based Kiwi star is expecting another tough weekend especially on the historic 3.34 kilometres “round the houses” street circuit through the Mediterranean Principality. Like all rounds of the championship, little practice time is available to set up cars and at a circuit that is known for extremely difficult passing, qualifying will be critical. Halliday will also be looking to make amends for a disappointing end to the last round where he was the innocent victim of somebody else’s accident. In Round 3, held last weekend at Spain’s Catalunya circuit near Barcelona, Halliday’s Giltrap Racing 2010 spec Porsche 911 GT3 was shunted from behind after seven laps of the 14 lap race resulting in his not finishing the race. The offending driver was handed a severe penalty by race officials but that still did not aid the Kiwi’s cause.  The result was all the more frustrating for Halliday was he was running as high as 6th place after battling his way up from 13th grid position following a challenging qualifying where finding the ideal race set up proved difficult: “After a tough build up to last weekend and some major brake dramas in practice and qualifying we finally had a good car for the race which enabled us to charge through the field. However, the MRS crew is working hard to ensure we have a good car for the high profile race this coming weekend” said Halliday. Richard Giltrap, of the Giltrap Group is also upbeat about the forthcoming Monaco race: “Last weekend was extremely unfortunate for Matt and the team. After finally managing to set the car up correctly, Matt was making his way through to the front of the field, only to be taken out. This weekend, at a track he knows very well, we will make amends. This is his favourite track, and we expect to post a much better result here.” This weekend will see qualifying on Saturday night with the 16 lap race being held on Sunday night (NZ time).
