Football fans all over New Zealand were up in this morning’s early hours to watch the All Whites draw 1-1 against defending champions Italy, in their second historic 2010 FIFA World Cup clash. The Kiwi football team, considered the underdogs of the competition, scored an early seventh-minute goal courtesy of striker Shane Smeltz against Italy - ranked 73 positions ahead of them. |

Kiwis are celebrating one of New Zealand’s greatest sporting moments with the All Whites claiming an historic goal to draw 1-1 against Slovakia in the first round of the FIFA World Cup finals. This is the first time the All Whites have scored a point at Football World Cup level, and only the second time in New Zealand’s history that the national squad has made it into the Football World Cup finals. |

Runners from 10 countries will compete this weekend (21.03.09) in a unique beach marathon on the remote sands of 90 Mile Beach in New Zealand’s Far North. The Te Houtaewa Challenge - the world’s only marathon run entirely on a beach track - honours legendary Māori athlete Te Houtaewa, who isremembered for the cunning and speed that helped him escape enemies after he’d stolen their kumara or sweet potatoes.
