Local Crew Dominate 12th Annual Us Skate Comp!
Friday, 11 December 2009 03:15
What a day!  With a huge turn out and the sun coming out for a scorcher!! The decision to move the comp to Sunday proved a good choice!

Sam Huntington Should be a model he has so much style

We kicked off the day with the under 12’s. The level of skating by these groms was super impressive! I’m sure it made some of us feel very insecure about our own skating! haha. Gulf Harbour shredder Roiyan Mc Govern was dominating with super smooth style and consistency, working his way to a well earned 1st place!  It was awesome to see the Skate Academy boys charging with Evie Walker placing 2nd! You did us proud bro!

The U16s was sick to watch with everybody ut some bangers!  NEW Us team rider Shaun Bone was impressing the judges with his MASSIVE sleeve of tricks! Double kickflips, late heelflips yo name it, Bone was landing it! Us Team rider Nathan Malmo landed an impressive Boneless Fakie on the big Quarter..

The ones that made it through to the final were clearly on fire on the day, Chase Collins, Sean Bone, Scott olds, Taylor W, Jack Moon were all stepping it up, with a few even entering the mens open!  Stoked to see our boys coming out on top with Us team riders Chase Collins and Scott  ” Ginge” Olds  taking out 1st and 2nd with Jack Moon 3rd.

Thanks to Hamish at VANS I had a pair of shoes voucher to give away, now we thought we would leave this to last minute to decide how to give this out, and sure enough there was a spectator with a VESPA scooter and on of the MCs had a bright idea to put it on the pyramid and the VANS went to best trick!

Bancroft even Boneless foot tapped it!! With Sam Reynolds coming so so close to landing his trademark backside flip and one of the Chech ripper scooting his 360 flip it was Taupo Tim who took it out with a SICK frontside flip!

Thanks to Plug  and their 3 man waterballon slingshot we entertained ourselves in between heats! With Scott Brodie finding out first hand how its not a good idea to volunteer to get shot at from point blank! But thanks for the entertainment biscuits!

This years VANS game of S.K.A.T.E was a highlight for all of us with some of NZ’s top names entering, all trying to win that $500 cash prize! With more than 30 entrants it was chaos in the beginning as the first round kicked off, but as people slowly got knocked off it was coming down to the line!  I mannaged to check out a few of the games, some epic battles came from Mike Bancroft vs Sam Reynolds and NEWLY crowned nz champ Rueben Baker vs Tim Schmid, Both Mike and Tim moved on to the next round.

The final was so epic! Between ex Us rider and browns bay local Benny Crow and Tim ” Taups” Schmidt, it was a spectacle! The crowd getting right in on it creating a circle around the boys as they battled it up! In a show of techness and flat ground domination Benny took it out with a grin on his face and a whopping $500 cash cheque in his hands.

The mens open final was the best we have seen with some fresh talent by some boys from Chech Republic, straight killed it! But once again it was the mighty gypsy Mike Bancroft who took it out, hitting every feature in the park only half way through his run and earning himself for the 2nd year running, 1st place! The undercover brother who took out 2nd was DAN KASPAR? all the way from Chech Republic? and in 3rd place was non other than Us team rider and local ripper Christian Low!

Thanks to Everybody who came out for the day, to Alan Kezlik, Harris Taylor and Chris Miller for judging and holding everybody together! Mike Wade and Pek for being our MC’s for the day! Hamish and Emma from VANS for rocking up and helping out for the day!  Nick humphreys for being the man and the backbone behind Us!  All my little groms for helping out all day, and finaly to our sponsors  ELECTRIC, VANS, BAKER, SPITFIRE, ELEMENT, BONES, ABC, VOLCOM, VIC, FEDERATION and MONSTER ENERGY, this event was made possible because of your support!

See you all next year to see who can take the crown from MAD MIKE BANCROFT!
