The Rollercoaster event hosted by Grab-a-Seat in association with Monster Energy, Element Skateboards, ABC, North Shore City Council, Vans and Underground Skate went down like a finely oiled machine to keep several thousand spectators amped throughout the day on Saturday 27th March 2010.

Rollercoaster 2010 was once again New Zealand’s biggest Street Skate, Downhill skate racing, BMX and Wake event combined with music from alot of well know local bands like quarter 2 and DJ Karn Hall.

Underground Skate once again organized and amazing skate comp and the Auckland Skate Community turned out in support putting it on for the crowd.

The skate comp was split into 3 diversions U12, U16 and Open and with $1000’s in prizes to be given away the riders we up for it.

In the U12 Division Lenard Tejada from Papakura ripped up the park inlcuding a Tre flip on Element Fun Box hip and and nollie B/S flip on the 1/4 into his run.  Elliot Mangos backside heelflips and 50:50 heel flip out on the box.  Orewa local Joe Walker was a crowd favourite.  At only 9 Years of age Joe is a great product of the Us Skate Academy and his hard work has paid as he cleaned up against guys much bigger sticking a nice Melon Grab down the stairs adn blunt fakie on the 1/4.

Sean Bone Nollie flip | P. Sam Curtin

The U16’s really stepped up to the next level.  Us Team rider Sean Bone proved solid skating hard and fast all day with a huge frontside flip over the gap and nollie flipping the hubba stairs.

Junior Tre Flipping Stairs | P. Sam Curtin

Junior a regular on the skate comp scene ripped up the hubba set with sold K Grinds throwing his body on the line.  Chase Collins another Underground Skate rider skated solidly all day.  One of the 1st to arrive in the morning Chase’s front 5-0’s and front tails down the hubba were butterly smooth.  Chase also picked up best trick best with a container bean plant fakie!  Chase only 14 is one to watch for the future.

In the Open some big names where on hand.  It was good to see one of the quieter guys Mr Sam Reynolds take it out with some smooth smiths over the gap backed up with a Kickflip FS 50:50 down the hubba and nose blunt down the same ledge.

Mike Bancroft impressed as always becoming a grom favourite slapping hands and having fun.  Packing about 40 tricks into a 2 minute run Mike was impressive as always.  Dan Kasper managed to get F/S and B/S 5-0’s down each hubba and a switch big spin down the stairs.

Overall it was an amazing day with many people walking away with smiles and sunburn for the 2nd year in a row.  No doubt Rollercoaster 2011 will be even bigger and better in 2011, as this event grows year on year.

The park fully constructed in One day! By Corban from Remain and The tireless Rollercoaster Events team was amazing.  Built over a remote control car track the course took alot of planning to avoid all the berms and the berms claimed their fair share of casualties.
