A trio of New Zealand athletes grabbed gold medals at the Queensland State surf lifesaving championships on Sunday the 1st of March. National ironman champion Daniel Moodie warmed up for the defence of his New Zealand crown next week in Gisborne by helping his Northcliffe `B' side to an upset win in the surf race teams event, heading home their club's gun side which included ironman stars Nathan Smith, Pierce Leonard, Shannon Eckstein and Zane Holmes. |

Nearly 750 junior lifeguards from around the country will descend on Mount Maunganui for the annual New Zealand under-14 Ocean Athletes championships starting tomorrow. In its ninth year, Ocean Athletes brings together 38 clubs from around New Zealand, pitting the future stars of the sport against each other in more than 1000 races over three days.

Olympian Hewitt rejoins Canterbury surf team |

Olympic triathlete Andrea Hewitt has given the Canterbury surf lifesaving team a massive boost by accepting an invitation to compete in this weekend's Lion Foundation Surf League in Mount Maunganui. Hewitt cut her teeth in surf lifesaving, collecting a remarkable 43 national titles through the junior and senior ranks before beginning her triathlon career four years ago.
