“Caballito de Totora” is the name of the typical Peruvian surfboats, made of a watergrass type, typical to the Peru region. Originally used by fishermen, the caballitos are a versatile tool to navigate the waters. Sofia Mulanovich together with world-class surfer Sally Fitzgobbons and junior Nadja de Col changed their boards for the ancient type to test the surfing quality of these Peruvian boats that have thousands of years of history.

New Zealand surfers excel on the opening day of the Billabong Pro Junior at Raglan - Buck Woods and Alex Dive

The famed left-hand point break of Manu Bay at Raglan on New Zealand’s north island delivered great conditions for day one of the Association of Surfing Professionals Billabong Pro Junior and the top seeded Pro Junior Men’s division thrived in the semi-clean 1.5m (4 feet) surf.

Super Surfer Billy Stairmand The New Champ

20-year-old Billy Stairmand of Raglan is the new National Champion after defeating his more experienced opponents in the final of the Hyundai National Surfing Championships completed at Gisborne today (Sunday 4th April).  Stairmand was joined by another first time national champion Laura Rishworth of Mount Maunganui who won the Open Women’s Division.

An unexpected event victory by unheralded Gisborne surfer Sam Johnson handed Dylan Barnfield (Ohope) the Hyundai Pro Longboard Tour title on an action packed final day of the fifth and final event held at Port Waikato this weekend (26-27 March).
